DALLAS (PA) –
Mike Isgro became Delaware Valley College's all-time leader in RBIs, but Misericordia University scored 10 runs in the first inning and went on to a 15-8, Freedom Conference victory over the visiting Aggies.
The Cougars improved to 18-14 overall and 5-11 in the Freedom while Delaware Valley fell to 10-18-1 overall and 2-14 in league play. The series will now shift to Doylestown for Saturday's doubleheader.
Isgro smacked a two-run homer in the first inning to give the Aggies a quick 2-0 lead. The blast, his eighth of the season, upped his career RBI total to 125, breaking the previous mark of 124 set by current assistant coach
Mark Roth. Isgro, who went 2-for-5 in the game, also moved into sole possession of fifth place in career home runs with 15 and into a tie for eighth place in runs scored with 110.
However, the bottom of the first saw Misericordia notch 10 runs on 10 hits and four Delaware Valley errors. Andrew Tressa hit the first of two home runs in the game, a two-run shot, while Kenny Durling added a two-run double for the big blows in the stanza.
The Aggies scored off a Cougar error in the second and added two more in the third, including an RBI single by
Jim Calabrese. Misericordia notched single runs in the fourth and fifth before Delaware Valley hit the scoreboard again in the sixth on an RBI single by
Dylan Saldutti for a 12-6 ballgame.
The Cougars scored their final runs of the game with two tallies in the seventh and one in the eighth. Tressa knocked in both runs in the seventh with his second round-tripper of the game. The Aggies scored in the eighth as
Kellen Jarrett crossed home plate on a wild pitch and added one in the ninth on an RBI single by
Cody Hudnall for the 15-8 final.
Tressa finished the afternoon 3-for-5 with the two home runs, two runs scored and four RBIs. Durling was 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs while Chris Tuttle knocked in a pair of runs. Max Weintraub went six innings for the win.
In addition to Isgro's offense,
Jake Barben went 2-for-5 while Jarrett,
Zach Chodur and
Gary Cooper scored two runs apiece.
Brian Hafer took the loss on the mound.
