MANHATTANVILLE COMPLETES SERIES SWEEP OF DELVAL

PURCHASE (NY) – Manhattanville put 22 runs and 21 hits on the board in the opener and then used a walk-off single in the seventh inning of the nightcap for a pair of Freedom Conference victories over visiting Delaware Valley College, 22-3 and 4-3.

The two wins on Saturday, combined with Thursday's 10-4 triumph over the Aggies in Doylestown, completed a three-game series sweep for the Valiants as they improved to 14-15 overall and 9-6 in the Freedom. Delaware Valley fell to 10-16-1 overall and 2-13 in the league.

It was all Manhattanville in the first game as it scored in all six innings it batted in, including 16 runs over the first three stanzas. Ten different players notched hits with nine knocking in runs. A.J. Triano led the attack as he went 3-for-6 with a home run, three runs scored and three RBIs. Chris Nardozzi was 3-for-5 with two doubles and four runs scored while Paul Blejec and Joe Gallace had three hits and three RBIs apiece. Dave Reider scored three runs and knocked in three in a 1-for-2 effort.

Delaware Valley's lone highlight in the opener was three-run homer by senior centerfielder Mike Isgro in the third inning. It was Isgro's seventh round-tripper of the season and the 14th of his career, moving him into a tie for fifth place on the all-time list. Brian Hafer lasted just two innings and took the loss.

Isgro took the mound in the nightcap and he kept the Manhattanville offense in the check for the first six innings. He also had contributed at the plate with double that scored Kellen Jarrett in the first inning. It upped Isgro's career RBI tally to 123 and just one behind current assistant coach Mark Roth's school-record total.

The Valiants tied the game in the second on an unearned run, but the Aggies regained the lead in the top of the third on an RBI single by Jarrett. Manhattanville countered with a run in its half of the stanza on an RBI single by Nardozzi. It remained a tied ballgame until the seventh when Delaware Valley's Cory Weingart reached on a fielding error, moved to second on a ground out and scored on an RBI single by Dylan Saldutti.

However, Blejec led off the bottom of the seventh with a single and Kevin Murray drew a walk. A wild pitch moved the runners into scoring position and Triano followed with a single to score Blejec and tie the game. Nardozzi was intentionally walked to load the bases and pitcher Daniel Fiorito singled up the middle to knock in Murray with the game-winning run. Fiorito finished 2-for-4 with the big RBI and also earned the win as he allowed three runs (two hits) and eight hits in seven innings.

Isgro was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI at the plate, but took the loss and fell to 1-4 on the year. Jarrett was 2-for-4 with a double, a run scored and an RBI while Weingart was 1-for-3 with a double and scored two runs.
