Lachenmeyer's Walk-Off Caps Aggies' Wild Comeback Win Over John Jay

Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Troy Lachenmeyer's walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth capped a wild comeback as Delaware Valley University erased a 9-0 deficit to defeat visiting John Jay College, 16-15.

The Aggies (15-15) entered the bottom of the ninth inning trailing by one, 15-14. With one out, Matt Beyer worked a walk and was pinch run for by Matt DeLaRosa. Brad Duckworth stepped in next as a pinch hitter and hit a ball to right field that was misplayed allowing DeLaRosa to score the tying run, and Duckworth to advance to third. With the winning run 90 feet away and one out, Lachenmeyer sent a line drive to right field, deep enough to score the run, but the ball was dropped, negating a tag-up scenario, and Duckworth was able to trot home for the 16-15 walk-off victory.

DelVal fell into an early hole as John Jay sent 13 batters to the plate and scored nine runs on seven hits in the first inning. Jurrel Diaz knocked in two with a triple to the right-center gap and Dylan Laudano scored two with a single through the middle.

The Aggies had the bases loaded in the bottom of the frame thanks to two hits and a single however, Chris Pacheco got Trevor Mussleman to strikeout swinging to end the threat.

In the second, the Bloodhounds got their first two runners aboard before the Aggies turned a 4-6-3 double play followed by a nice play in the second base hole by Musselman for the final out.

The Aggies began to climb back in the second as Kevin Crill got the Aggies on the board with a double to right field that scored Troy Lachenmayer. Josh Morgan then brought in Bobby Altieri with a sacrifice fly and Crill scored on a balk on the next pitch. Kyle Wenger then laced his second hit of the day, a double down the right field line, and scored on a single to center by Sammy Amos to make it 9-4 after two.

John Jay responded in the third with three runs on a wild pitch, an error and an RBI single by Charlee Rodriguez to make it 12-4.

However, DelVal got all three runs back in the bottom of the inning after loading the bases with nobody out and scoring on a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly from Josh Morgan. Wenger then delivered his second double that scored Altieri.

The Aggies climbed to within two in the fourth thanks to an RBI double to deep center by Jeremey Stewart that plated Altieri and Beyer and made it 12-9.

The Bloodhounds regained the five-run advantage in the next half inning with an RBI double from Brian Garcia followed by a homerun to left field from Laudano.

In the bottom of the fifth, DelVal loaded the bases with one out again and earned a run when Musselman worked a walk. Lachenmayer was the next batter and he drove in one with a fielder's choice and came around to score when Altieri laced a single to center to make it a one-run game, 14-13.

Each team scored once in the seventh inning and the stage was set for Duckworth and Lachenmayer to pull off the ninth inning dramatics.

Lachenmayer finished the game 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs including the game-winner. Altieri was 2-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI and a walk and Wenger went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI and a walk. Stewart picked up three RBIs on one hit and Morgan finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and one run scored. Stewart also earned the win on the mound with two scoreless innings of work.

Laudano led John Jay with three hits, three RBIs and three runs scored. Garcia also had three hits and three RBIs to go with two runs scored. Charlee Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and one run scored and five other Bloodhounds recorded multiple hits. Jared Hershfield suffer the loss in a game that saw seven different pitchers for John Jay.
