Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University dropped its 2017 Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener to visiting Manhattanville College, 19-9, on Wednesday afternoon.
The Valiants improved their record to 6-3 and 1-0 in league game while the Aggies fell to 6-2 overall and 0-1.
Manhattanville got on the board first when Jennifer Machin found Kat Reilly open in front, but DelVal quickly tied the game less than a minute later with a tally from
Kara Imes. The next three goals of the game came from free-position attempts, with the Valiants earning two of them, to take a 3-2 lead. The Aggies' tally came from
Samantha Collyer.
Manhattanville scored three more times over the next seven minutes to open up a four-goal advantage with 15:55 left in the first half. The Aggies managed to cut its deficit to two, 6-4, thanks to two straight goals from freshman
Amanda McKeegan.
However, the rest of the half, belonged to the Valiants as they scored four unanswered goals to take a 10-4 lead at the break. Reilly and Evaline Diaz each tallied and Carly Weiss scored twice in the spurt.
The Aggies came out in the second stanza and scored just 28 seconds in when
Graeleigh Lackey beat the keeper from in close. However, Manhattanville countered with an 8-1 run over the next 14:30 to take an 18-6 lead and never looked back.
Lackey finished the day with four goals and McKeegan notched two while Collyer, Imes and
Jordan Sanocki each found the back of the net once. Imes added six draw controls.
Amanda Dietrich made 13 saves.
Manhattanville was led by a six-point effort from Reilly on five goals and one assist. Machin (one goal, two assists) and Diaz (three goals) followed with three points each. Bella Marchiselli went the distance in the win and made nine saves.
DelVal will resume MAC Freedom play when it heads to Wilkes University on Saturday for a 1 p.m. game.
