MADISON, N.J. – The Delaware Valley women's lacrosse team mounted a late push after falling behind by six, using strong second and fourth quarters to claw back, but ultimately came up just short in a 12–11 loss to FDU-Florham.
FDU-Florham controlled the opening quarter, holding the Aggies scoreless while netting six unanswered goals to build an early cushion. A late card in the closing seconds of the first set up an opportunity for Delaware Valley, as
Katie Martin converted a man-up goal just 33 seconds into the second quarter to get the Aggies on the board.
DelVal continued to capitalize on the extra-player advantage, with
Abbie Hostetler finishing a man-up chance nearly four minutes later.
Gabriella Guerra and
Charley Lengel-Kramer added back-to-back goals to trim the deficit to 7–4, and Lengel-Kramer struck again on another advantage opportunity. However, the Devils answered in the final 30 seconds of the half to take a 9–5 lead into the break.
Both teams traded goals in the third quarter, with Lengel-Kramer and
Piper Jones finding the back of the net to keep the margin at four heading into the final period. The Aggies turned up the pressure in the fourth, limiting FDU-Florham to just one goal while scoring four times in a comeback bid.
Martin opened the final-quarter surge with a free-position goal just over three minutes in, and Hostetler followed shortly after. After a Devils response, Jones and Hostetler each added late tallies to bring DelVal within one, but the rally fell just short as time expired.
Emily Drake manned the goal the entire game tallying 14 goals. With her seventh goal in the game the junior goalie reached the 500
th milestone for career saves.
DelVal returns to action this Tuesday, April 21 21 when they host Stevens at 4 p.m.
