Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University scored five runs in the sixth inning to move past the visiting College of Mount Saint Vincent, 10-6, in a non-conference game.
The Aggies improved their record to 8-6 overall while the Dolphins dropped to 6-11.
Steven Hansen got Mount Saint Vincent on the board in the top of the second with an RBI single that scored James Valenti and Zachary Saunders hit a sacrifice fly in the third to put DelVal down, 2-0.
The Aggies responded with three runs in their half of the third inning.
Josh Morgan hit an RBI single and
Bobby Altieri drove in a run with a sacrifice fly while
Nate Cummings crossed the plate after an error to make it 3-2.
Valenti drove in another run in the fourth to tie the game at three but DelVal quickly got it back when
Kyle Wenger drove in
Troy Lachenmayer with a sacrifice fly to center in the bottom of the inning.
The Dolphins regained the lead with two runs on three hits in the top of the fifth. Matthew Nesensohn and Honorio Pena each picked up RBI singles in the frame to make it a 5-4 game.
The scored stayed that way until the Aggies' big sixth inning where they managed five runs on five hits. Lachenmayer and Crill hit back-to-back singles to start the rally and
Nate Cummings drove them both in with a double to the left center gap. Wenger then got aboard with a bunt single and stole second, and
Sammy Amos hit a single through the left side for two RBIs. Amos came in to score on an infield single by
Bobby Altieri to make it 9-5.
DelVal got one more in the seventh when Cummings smoked an RBI triple to right. He now has three triples and seven RBIs in the last three games. The Dolphins scored a run in the eighth inning on a pass ball but could not get any closer as the Aggies held on for the 10-6 final.
Cummings finished the game 4-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. Crill was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and a walk and Amos had two RBIs and two runs scored. Lachenmayer was 2-for-3 at the dish with a run scored.
Trevor Dalton got the start on the mound and went four-plus innings with four strikeouts.
Hunter Mease and
Steve Smith pitched in relief and gave up a combined four hits and one run.
The Dolphins were led by a 3-for-4 effort with two runs scored and an RBI from Pena. Brian Cantero pitched two plus innings with three punch outs in the loss.
DelVal will take the field again this Wednesday, April 5 when they host Cabrini University in a non-conference contest at 3:30 p.m.
