Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) –
Hunter Mease pitched five innings of stellar relief in the second game as Delaware Valley split a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom twinbill with visiting Eastern University. The Aggies dropped the first game, 11-7, but bounced back with a 5-3 triumph.
DelVal moved its marks to 12-15 and 6-12 while the split left the Eagles at 13-18 and 8-10.
Mease entered the second game one batter into the second inning. He did not allow a run, nor a hit for that stanza as well as the next two. Meanwhile, the Aggies built a 7-0 lead over that time thanks to three runs in the first and third innings and a single tally in the fourth.
In the first,
Sammy Amos delivered a two-run single that scored
Nate Cummings and
Kyle Wenger. Later in the inning, Amos scored on a wild pitch.
DelVal did its damage with two outs in the third thanks to a hit and three Eastern errors. Wenger scored the first as he went from first to third on a ground out and the throw went into the dugout, allowing him to cross home plate.
Kevin Crill had an RBI single and the third scored on a miscue. In the fourth, Cummings scored on an Eagle error.
Eastern got two runs off Mease in the fifth and he walked the opening batter in the seventh and was replaced. The Eagles loaded the bases with no out, but managed just one run as DelVal got the 7-3 win.
Mease allowed three runs and five hits while improving to 2-1 on the year. Troy Lachenamayer was 2-for-2. Angelo Kelly had two hits and a run batted in for Eastern.
The Eagles sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning of the opener and scored six runs off of five hits. Kelly had two hits in the stanza, including a two-run double.
DelVal came back in the third and scored five times off of four hits and two Eastern errors. After the first tally was off a miscue, Wenger had a two-run single. Amos followed with a two-run double to make it a one-run game.
The Eagles responded with two runs in the top of the fourth, both on a double by Andrew Moykin. They extended the lead to 11-5 with two in the sixth and one in the seventh. The Aggies got their final two in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a two-run double by
Josh Morgan.
Boukin and Kelly combined for four hits and six RBIs for Eastern while Ryan Kehr went six innings for the win. Amos and Wenger each had two hits and two RBIs while Morgan was 1-for-3 and knocked in two.
Steve Smith took the loss.
DelVal will be right back to the field on Sunday when it hosts Clarks Summit University for a non-conference doubleheader and Senior Day.
