Box Score 2 MADISON (NJ) – FDU-Florham took the final two contests of the three-game, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom series with visiting Delaware Valley University thanks to 11-3 and 12-4 scores on Sunday.
FDU-Florham improved to 12-15 overall and 6-9 in league action while the Aggies, who won Friday's series opener, saw their record go to 11-13 and 5-10.
In the opener, the Devils came out hitting with four runs in the first and five in the second off a combined nine base knocks and two DelVal errors. Dylan DiPolvere had a grand slam home run in the first and knocked another in with a single in the second.
DelVal got a run on the board in the fourth as
Bobby Altieri drove
Kyle Wenger in with a single. FDU-Florham answered with two in its half of the inning before the Aggies plated single run in the sixth (RBI single by
Brad Duckworth) and the seventh (RBI single by
Kevin Johnson).
Wenger went 2-for-4 for the lone multiple-hit performance by the Aggies.
Steve Smith lasted just one-plus innings and took the loss. DiPolvere finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBI for the Devils.
The second game saw DelVal get the early lead as
Sammy Amos drove in
Nate Cummings and an error on the play also allowed Wenger to score. FDU-Florham countered with a pair of runs in both the second and third frames for a 4-2 advantage.
The Aggies made it a one-run game in the top of the fourth as Cummings had a single that drove in Smith, who led off the inning with a double. However, the Devils blew the game open with eight runs off of six hits in the bottom of the fourth, including two-run doubles by Bryan Pieschel and Joseph Bonaccorso.
DelVal got its final tally in the fifth on Duckworth's RBI double that brought in Amos. Wenger was 2-for-3 while Duckworth was 1-for-2.
Trevor Dalton took the loss.
Diego Espinosa drove in four runs for the Devils while Bonaccorso knocked in three. Matt Zingaro pitched four-plus innings of relief and got the win.
The Aggies will host John Jay College for a non-conference game on Tuesday, April 25.
