Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team clinched a winning season for the first time in program history and remained in the hunt for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) tournament berth thanks to a 12-5 home victory over DeSales University.
The Aggies, who are currently in their third of year of intercollegiate play, improved their record to 8-4 overall. They are 2-3 in conference play and just one game back of the final playoff spot with two contests remaining. The Bulldogs fell to 5-10 and 1-4.
DelVal scored the first six goals of the game and never looked back.
Graeleigh Lackey got the scoring started just 24 seconds in and
Jordan Sanocki followed a little over a minute later to make it 2-0.
Taylor Teliszewski found the back of the net to make it a three-goal game before Sanocki picked up her second and third tallies of the day and Lackey notched her second for the 6-0 advantage.
DeSales got on the board with 13:58 left in the first half on an unassisted tally from Danielle Burke, but the Aggies quickly responded with back-to-back goals from Teliszewski and
Amanda McKeegan. The Bulldogs added one before the end of the half to make it an 8-2 game at the break.
In the second half, Sydney Kane notched her second and third goals of the day in the first five minutes to pull DeSales to within four, 8-4. However, it would not get any closer as DelVal scored four unanswered goals over the next 17 minutes to open up a 12-4 lead with less than 10 minutes to play. Butler scored her sixth of the year and Imes scored twice in the spurt.
Katarina Polyviou added one more for the Bulldogs and nobody scored in the final eight and a half minutes as the Aggies notched the 12-5 win.
Sanocki led DelVal with four goals while McKeegan (one goal, two assists) and Teliszewski (two goals, one assist) each picked up three points. Imes and Lackey scored twice with Imes added 10 ground balls and five draw controls. Butler had a goal as well.
Amanda Dietrich had 11 saves and eight ground balls in the win.
For DeSales, Kane led the team with three goals while Burke and Polyviou had the others. Lori King played all 60 minutes in goal and made 13 saves.
DelVal will look to even its conference record and stay alive in the race when it travels to Misericordia University on Tuesday, April 25 (4 p.m.).
