Box Score 2 FORT PIERCE (PA) – Delaware Valley University earned its first wins of the young season with a doubleheader sweep of Geneva College during the second day of competition on its spring break to Florida. The Aggies won game one, 6-5, and took game two, 12-4.
DelVal improved to 2-2 on the year while the Golden Tornadoes fell to 0-2.
The Aggies trailed 1-0 when they came to bat in the bottom of the fourth where they strung together a two-out rally to open up a 4-1 lead.
Kyle Wenger got the rally started with a single and a stolen base and came around to score on an error by the centerfielder.
Sammy Amos then knocked in
Josh Morgan, who reached on the error, with a single. After
Jeremy Stewart laced another single, designated hitter
Steve Smith hit a triple to bring in two runs and give DelVal the three-run advantage.
Geneva got one back in the next frame when Forrest Beighley drove in Matt Chubb who was aboard with a leadoff triple. However, the Aggies picked the run back up in their half of the fifth to make it 5-2.
The Golden Tornadoes threatened in the sixth with back-to-back singles to start the inning. Both players came around to score after a sacrifice fly and an error to cut Geneva's deficit to 5-4.
DelVal picked up an insurance run in the sixth when Stewart laid down a sacrifice bunt to score Wenger. In the final inning, the Golden Tornadoes got its leadoff hitter on after an error. He eventually scored on a single, but the Aggies were able to prevent any further damage and
Hunter Mease earned his first save of the season.
Trevor Dalton picked up the win after five and one third innings.
In the back end of the doubleheader, the Aggies got on the board first after a hit, a walk and an error resulted in a two-run first inning. They quickly went up 5-0 after a three-run home run from Wenger and an RBI single from Amos.
The Golden Eagles got on the board in the third inning after an RBI single from Joey Luciana drove in Trevor Pagaduan. DelVal led 7-2 going into the sixth inning where it managed five runs on two hits and three errors. Trevor Musselman picked up an RBI in the frame after a fielder's choice.
Smith started on the mound in game two and pitched five innings, surrendering two earned runs on six hits to earn his first win.
Brendan Giampa and
James Eldridge pitched an inning each of relief.
