Box Score GWYNEDD VALLEY (PA) – It was a record-breaking day for Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse as the Aggies visited Gwynedd Mercy University and defeated the Griffins, 22-7, for a program-best fifth win in a row.
The triumph improves DelVal to 5-0, matching its win total from a season ago and extending the longest win streak in program history. The 22 goals scored ties the single-game record set by the 2015 squad in the program's first-ever home game against Cedar Crest College. In addition, the Aggies peppered Gwynedd Mercy with 46 shots this afternoon surpassing the previous program record of 41 shots, reached in last year's matchup against the Griffins.
DelVal scored the first five goals of this contest in the opening 6:33.
Graeleigh Lackey opened the scoring thanks to an assist from
Amanda McKeegan. The next four goals were unassisted, including two from
Kara Imes and one apiece from
Jordan Sanocki and
Taylor Teliszewski. Carrie Kilgore got Gwynedd Mercy on the board just 16 seconds later with her fifth goal of the season.
The Aggies scored the next two goals of the game thanks to an unassisted tally from
Samantha Collyer and another assist from McKeegan as she found Sanocki to make it 7-1 with 11:52 to play in the first half. However, Kilgore scored again just 22 seconds later to make it 7-2.
Teliszewski then scored her second of the game before freshman
Caitlin Ward found the back of the net for the first goal of her collegiate career to make it 9-2. The Aggies then scored two goals separated by just nine seconds to go up by nine before Samantha Brown got one back for the Griffins. DelVal scored two more before the end of the half to take a 13-3 lead after 30 minutes.
In the second half, the Aggies' lead quickly grew to 15-3 after goals from Sanocki and Imes. Brown scored once more for Gwynedd Mercy before another 4-0 run from DelVal made it 19-4 with 17:19 remaining. The two teams went back and forth the rest of the way and DelVal junior
Janee' Rhone scoried her first of the year in the final minute to cap off the 22-7 Aggie victory.
DelVal had eight different players notch multiple points led by five from Lackey who scored four times and had one assist to up her team-best totals to 17 goals and 22 points. Imes scored four times for four points. Collyer (three goals), McKeegan (three assists), Sanocki (three goals) and Teliszewski (three goals) all finished with three points each. McKeegan now leads the team with six assists this season. Ward and
Sabrina Butler scored twice and Rhone's first goal of the campaign rounded out the scoring.
As a team, the Aggies grabbed 29 ground balls and caused 10 turnovers compared to 12 ground balls and two caused turnovers for Gwynedd Mercy. Collyer, Rhone and Serdinsky each picked up four ground balls while sophomore goalkeeper
Amanda Dietrich earned her fifth straight win by making eight saves.
The Griffins were led by three goals each from Brown and Kilgore. Kerri Flanagan also scored once and Bria Gillard made 15 saves while playing all 60 minutes between the pipes.
