Box Score 2 FORT PIERCE (FL) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team concluded its Spring Break trip to Florida with a doubleheader sweep of Norwich University, 15-4 and 4-2.
The Aggies posted a 5-2 record on its trip while the Cadets fell to 0-6 on the season.
In the opener, it was a 2-2 ballgame until DelVal scored four times in the bottom of the fifth. Then in the sixth, it plated nine runs to put the game out of reach. The Aggies sent 15 batters to the plate in the innings and racked up eight hits.
Josh Morgan and
Kyle Wenger each had three hits, two runs scored and three runs batted in during the contest.
Jeremy Hefele picked up the win as he went six-plus innings and allowed just two earned runs while striking out a career-best 10 batters.
The second game saw a complete-game pitching performance from DelVal senior
Trevor Dalton as he permitted just two runs and seven hits. Norwich brought the tying run to the plate in the seventh, but Dalton got of it for his second win of the year.
The Aggies (the road team in the second game) got two runs in the top of the first on a Cadet error and RBI single from
Sammy Amos. A
Jeremy Stewart ground out in the third brought in a run for a 3-0 advantage. Norwich got two back in its half of the third but DelVal put an insurance run on the board in the top of the seventh as Wenger reached on a two-base error and Amos plated him with a single. Amos was 4-for-4 in the game.
DelVal is scheduled to host Gwynedd Mercy University for a non-conference game on Wednesday, March 15 (3:30 p.m.).
