Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – It was the home opener for the Delaware Valley University volleyball team on Thursday and the Aggies picked up their first win of the season thanks to a 3-1 triumph over Clarks Summit University. Set scores were 25-21, 25-23, 24-26 and 25-16.
It was the first win for DelVal head coach
Hugh Williams, who took over in the summer after serving as an assistant last season. Both squads saw its records go to 1-5 on the year with the result.
The Aggies trailed 19-16 in the opening set before strong serving by
Kate Woolsey helped the team take nine of the next 11 points. In the second, DelVal had a commanding 24-16 lead before Clarks Summit scored seven straight. A hitting error by the Lady Defenders gave DelVal the set.
A strong finish in the third gave Clarks Summit the set, but the Aggies opened the fourth with 13 straight points, including 12 off the serve of Woolsey. Seven of the 12 were service aces. DelVal was never in jeopardy in the set and a hitting error by the Lady Defenders on match point ended the contest.
Woolsey finished with 10 service aces and also added seven kill and 16 digs.
Taylor Klecan led the attack with 17 kills while digging out 12 balls while
Kayla Bracken added nine kills and seven digs.
Nicole Daigneault finished with 31 assists and 10 digs.
Callie Kitowski led Clarks Summit with 15 kills while Grace Evan had 15 digs.
DelVal heads to the Rutgers-Camden Tournament on Saturday, September 10.
