Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Margaret Wentzel and Andrea Wysocki combined for four goals and three assists to lead undefeated and nationally-ranked Alvernia University to a 5-0, non-conference victory over host Delaware Valley University.
The Crusaders, ranked 19
th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III poll, continued its best start in school history by upping their record to 9-0. The Aggies saw their two-game winning streak come to an end as they fell to 4-6.
Wentzel finished with two goals and two assists while Wysocki added two goals and one helper. Wysocki put Alvernia on the board just 1:46 in as she came back onto the playing field after starting a corner, and deflected in a shot from Malorie McCoy. The Crusaders made it 2-0 with 47 seconds left in the stanza and Wentzel set up Michaela Burke for a blast on another corner.
The Crusaders put the game away with three goals in a five-minute span in the second half. Wysocki got the first with 15:02 remaining as Wentzel sent a crossing pass to her near the left post. Wentzel then scored the next two, the first on a breakaway off a feed from Wysocki and the second off an assist from McCoy.
Alvernia outshot DelVal, 22-10, and had a 19-6 advantage in corners. Rebecca Brosious and Nicole Heinze combined for six saves and the shutout.
Rosie Bishop had seven saves for the Aggies, who will travel to Misericordia University for a Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom game on Saturday, October 1 (12 p.m.).
