DelVal’s Defense Shines in Tough Loss to #12 Stevens

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley field hockey defensive unit put up a valiant fight against the nationally ranked Stevens Ducks, dropping the contest 3-0 on Saturday Night.

The Aggies faced a total of 24 shots from the Ducks across the four quarters. Brooke Golbeski tallied 11 saves on 14 shots faced while the Aggies defensive squad worked to put a stop to another 10. The team gave up just three goals to the Ducks who typically average 4.33 goals per game.

The Aggies had a few offensive chances in the contest. Just under a minute into action, DelVal broke over the 50 and made its way into Stevens' circle to earn its first corner of the game. Kaylee Hartung took the insert overshooting Brynne Miller up top. Emma Schueller quickly came to the rescue controlling the ball and made an attempt to move the play back into the circle, but the Ducks defense forced the ball out of bounds to switch possession.

DelVal earned its second offensive corner in the second frame, 22:15 into play. Hartung took the insert again this time hitting Miller dead on for the quick shot stopped by the Ducks goalie. The Aggies kept the ball alive off the rebound penetrating the circle twice more before possession shifted back in favor of the Ducks.

With just 13 seconds remaining, Stevens looked to expand its lead to four off its 11th penalty corner of the night. Miller flew from the cage to the top of the arc to block the attempted shot. The Aggies' defense and Golbeski battled through the final 10 seconds right in front of the cage holding off a second attempt until time ran out.

The Aggies return to Robert A. Lipinski field for their final regular season home contest on Wednesday, Oct. 29 hosting FDU-Florham at 7 p.m.
