DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team dropped the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener to Wilkes University, 16-9 on Saturday.
The Aggies are 5-4 overall while the Lady Colonels have an 8-2 record.
Wilkes got the first two goals in a messy contest as the two teams played through rain and snow for the entirety of the matchup. Senior
Lydia Spakosky put Delaware Valley on the board with 25:46 left in the opening half. The Lady Colonels tallied three straight markers to go ahead 5-1. Sophomore
Graeleigh Lackey got the Aggies within three at 18:58. Wilkes had a 7-2 advantage before Lackey scored on a man-up opportunity with 7:24 on the clock. After a Wilkes goal, freshman
Taylor Spleen hit the back of the net on a helper by Lackey with 41 seconds remaining. The Lady Colonels scored with 17 seconds to go and took a 9-4 lead into halftime.
Wilkes came out firing in the second period, registering the first six goals in just over 15 minutes. Sophomore
Kara Imes recorded back-to-back tallies to make the score 15-6 with 8:22 to go. After a Wilkes goal, Imes finished off the hat trick with 5:28 on the clock and the Aggies trailed 16-7. DelVal added two more goals but did not have enough time to finish the comeback attempt.
Sophomore Jessyca Held led Wilkes with five goals and two assists. Senior Madeleine Brownsey totaled four goals and one assist while senior Tori Kerr produced three goals and two helpers. Senior Melanie Rivera and sophomore Maura Brownsey each had three points and freshman Kyra Boccio finished the game with two. Senior Jessica MacConchie had six ground balls, five draw controls and four caused turnovers. Freshman Tabitha Gravius stopped four shots in goal.
Lackey ended the contest with three goals and two assists. Imes had the three goals while Spakosky, Spleen and sophomore
Janee' Rhone hit the back of the net one time apiece. Spleen also registered six ground balls, six draw controls and three caused turnovers. Sophomore
Taylor Teliszewski notched one assist. Freshman
Amanda Dietrich made 15 saves between the pipes.
DelVal travels to King's College for another conference game on Wednesday, April 13 (5:00 p.m.).
