Box Score GWYNEDD VALLEY (PA) – The final non-conference game of the season saw the Delaware Valley University baseball team drop an 18-8 decision at Gwynedd Mercy University.
The Aggies (15-17) struck for two runs in the top of the first as
Bobby Altieri drew a one-out walk and
Matt Dewald followed with a blast over the right-center field fence. It was Dewald's fourth round-tripper of his senior season.
The Griffins (17-15) then quickly responded with three runs in their half of the first and added another in the second for a 4-2 lead. DelVal it tied it up in the third as Altieri and Dewald had back-to-back doubles to account for one run, and Dewald later scored on a wild pitch. The Aggies then regained the lead at 5-4 in the fifth as
Ben Lippincott singled and eventually crossed home plate on a passed ball.
However, the rest of the game belonged to Gwynedd Mercy, starting in its half of the fifth as it notched six runs four hits. The Griffins then sent 12 batter to the plate in the seventh and it resulted in eight runs off of eight hits and a pair of DelVal errors.
The Aggies got their final runs with two in the eighth and one in the ninth.
Cayton Curtis had a two-run double in the eighth while
Corey White drove in one with a single in the final stanza. Dewald finished 2-for-4 with a double, home run, two runs scored and three RBI. Altieri continued his strong play of late by going 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Lippincott and
Josh Morgan also had two hits in the game.
Joe McGlade took the loss in relief.
Dave Tatoian and Shaugn Wright combined to go 7-for-10 with three doubles, four runs scored and eight RBI for Gwynedd Mercy. David Blound had three hits and scored four runs while Jason Mulvey had a pair of doubles and three runs scored. Zach Dennis picked up the victory.
DelVal will wrap up the 2016 campaign with a three-game series against DeSales University, starting with a single, nine-inning game on Friday, April 29.
