DelVal Baseball Opens Long Weekend With 14-8 Loss To Manhattanville

Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Robbie Lynch and Jordanis Nunez drove in three runs apiece as Manhattanville College opened a three-game, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom series with a 14-8 victory over host Delaware Valley University.

The Valiants improved to 20-11 overall and 10-6 in the conference while the Aggies fell to 14-13 and 3-11. The series will shift to Purchase, New York for Saturday's doubleheader (DelVal will then host King's College for a doubleheader on Sunday, marking a five-game weekend for the second straight week).

The Aggies struck for two runs in the bottom of the first as Ben Lippincott led off with a single and came around to score as Bobby Altieri executed a perfect hit-and-run with a double to right field. Altieri later scored on an RBI single by Jeremy Stewart.

Starting pitcher Kevin Crill cruised through the first three innings, but Manhattanville racked up seven runs on six hits and one error in the fourth inning. Nunez had an RBI double in the stanza while Lynch added a run-scoring triple.

DelVal made it a 7-4 game with single tallies in the fifth and sixth innings. Altieri singled in Lippincott, who led off with a double, in the fifth while Josh Morgan drove in Ryan Schuetrumpf (double) with a single.

However, the Valiants put the game away with six runs in the eighth inning. They had six hits during their at-bat, including a two-run bomb by Lynch, his sixth home of the season. DelVal put a run on the board in its half of the eighth and tallied three in the ninth for the 14-8 final (Manhattanville scored one in the top of the ninth).

For the Aggies, Altieri went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI while Morgan knocked in two runs with a 2-for-3 effort. Schuetrumpf finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Lippincott had two hits and two runs. Crill went seven-plus innings and took the loss.

Lynch was 3-for-6 and was just a double shy of the cycle. He also scored two runs. Nunez was 2-for-4 while Danny Gallagher went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI. Pat Badia improved to 5-0 as allowed four runs in five-plus innings.
