Box Score ST. DAVIDS (PA) – Sophomore
Kara Imes set a school record with seven goals, but Delaware Valley University's bid for its first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom victory in program history fell just short in a 16-15 loss to host Eastern University
The Eagles improved to 4-10 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Aggies, who are in their second year of intercollegiate competition, dropped to 5-7 overall and 0-4 in the MAC Freedom.
Imes broke the previous mark of six goals that teammate
Graeleigh Lackey set on a pair of occasions this season. Her last tally came with 11:52 remaining and it gave DelVal a 13-12 lead. Lackey then followed with her fourth goal of the game with 8:55 to go.
Eastern followed with three straight goals to take a 15-14 advantage. However, back came the Aggies as
Lydia Spakosky tied it up with an unassisted tally with 3:20 to go. The Eagles won the ensuing draw control and, 55 seconds later, Anna Charlebois connected for a one-goal lead. Eastern controlled the next draw and DelVal could not get possession before time ran out.
The Aggies scored three of the game's first four goals, including two by Lackey for an early advantage. After the Eagles tied the contest, Imes had back-to-back tallies to start her big afternoon. The teams traded goals three straight times for an 8-6 DelVal lead, but Eastern scored twice in the final 44 seconds of the first half for a tied game at the break.
The Eagles' Julie Haggan opened the scoring in the second stanza before Imes found the net three times in a 101-second span (Haggan had another goal during Imes' run) for an 11-10 Aggie advantage. The lead went back and forth for the rest of the contest before Charlebois' goal with 2:25 left proved to be the game-winning tally.
DelVal had a 31-30 advantage in shots and a 12-7 advantage in ground balls. Imes notched her seven goals on nine shots while Lackey had four goals and one assist for five points.
Taylor Spleen added two goals, one assist and six draw controls while Spakosky finished with a goal, a helper, five draw controls, four ground balls.
Taylor Teliszewski had the remaining tally and
Amanda Dietrich stopped eight shots in net.
Charlebois led Eastern with six goals and three assists for nine points. Haggan had a seven-point afternoon with five goals and two helpers while Stephanie Hogan added four goals, one assist and seven draw controls.
The Aggies are off until Tuesday, April 26 when they host FDU-Florham for a MAC Freedom game.
