Box Score IMMACULATA (PA) – Freshman
Samantha Collyer scored five goals and assisted on two others to lead the Delaware Valley University women's lacrosse team to a 14-11 victory at non-conference foe Immaculata University.
The victory improved the Aggies to a 2-1 young season and they have already matched their entire win total from their inaugural 2015 campaign. The Mighty Macs fell to 0-2.
Immaculata jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before DelVal tied it up with 10:58 remaining in the first half thanks to two goals from Collyer and another from
Krystal Serdinsky. The Mighty Macs then ran off three straight tallies over the next five minutes before Aggie leading scorer
Graeleigh Lackey connected for her ninth goal of the year. Immaculata's Brittany Whaley made it 7-4, but Collyer struck twice before the end of the half to pull DelVal to within one.
The Aggies tied it up just 2:58 into the second stanza when
Taylor Spleen notched an unassisted tally. They then took their first lead of the game three minutes later as Collyer scored her fifth goal of the game.
Lydia Spakosky and
Jacqueline Ricks followed with man-up goals 47 seconds apart for a 10-7 DelVal advantage.
Back came the Mighty Macs as they cut their deficit to one with 16:35 remaining, but the Aggies countered with four goals in a five-minute span to take control at 14-9. Lackey had a pair of tallies (Collyer the assist on one of them) while Ricks and Spleen added one apiece. Immaculata scored the final two goals of the afternoon, but it wasn't enough.
DelVal held a 34-27 advantage in shots and an 18-9 advantage in draw controls. Collyer had 11 shots on the day and tied teammate
Kara Imes for the second-highest, single-game goal and point total in program history (Lackey had six goals and eight points in this year's opener against Rosemont). Lackey added three goals and an assist while Ricks (two goals, one assists) and Spleen (two goals) had multiple-goal performances.
Courtney Knight picked up three grounds balls while
Amanda Dietrich had seven saves and the win in net.
