Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Brianna DiMaggio scored four goals as King's College spoiled Delaware Valley University's Homecoming with a 5-2 victory in a key, Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom field hockey match-up.
The Monarchs assured themselves of at least a tie for first place in the MAC Freedom when the weekend is over as they improved to 9-5 and 3-1. The Aggies, who were among the five teams atop the standings heading into Friday night, dropped to 6-9 and 2-2.
While DiMaggio had the monster evening, it was teammate Kelsey Gabriele that started the scoring less than four minutes in as, off a scramble in front, she slid a ball that scooted into the far right corner. DiMaggio made it 2-0 three minutes later off an assist from Caitlin Wood and then connected again with a blast with 15:33 left in the opening half.
Following a timeout, DelVal responded and got itself right back in the game thanks to
Samantha Collyer. The sophomore stole a pass and went in on a breakaway. She went around the goalkeeper and put a shot into the net with 13:12 left in the stanza. Four minutes later, it was Collyer again. This time,
Carlie Baldus sent a crossing pass to
Timera Brooks-Watts, who tipped it to Collyer for a re-direction and a one-goal game. Collyer has five goals on the year, all in the last seven days.
However, DiMaggio took back the momentum and pounced on a rebound to score with just 1:58 to go before the intermission. DiMaggio then put the game away midway through the second half as, on a 2-on-1, she finished a set up from Gabriele for goal number four.
King's outshot the Aggies, 16-6, and had a slight 6-4 edge in corners. Paige Tedik had three saves for the win while freshman
Rosie Bishop made five stops for the Aggies.
DelVal travels to FDU-Florham for a MAC Freedom game on Wednesday, October 19 (7 p.m.).
