Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University women's soccer team put a stop to its four-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory over visiting Neumann University on Tuesday.
The Aggies now sit at 3-6-1 on the season while the Knights dropped to 1-7.
Both teams were itching to hit the field after a pregame storm caused a lightning delay, pushing the start time back by 30 minutes. Once the match began, both teams put on an offensive display for the first 10-plus minutes. Junior
Karla Keler put DelVal ahead just 8:29 in to the game. She put in a great cross from senior
Nikki Dunlap. Senior Alexa DeRose got Neumann level just over one minute after, booting a free kick into the upper left corner of the net. Only 19 seconds later, Keler notched her second tally from the top right corner of the box. The advantage lasted for 58 seconds before senior Nicole McAfee tied the contest at two with a shot from 25 yards out that deflected off the keeper's hands.
With 6:26 to go in the opening half, Keler finished off the hat trick. After getting around the goalkeeper, she won a battle with the Neumann defender, getting off a turnaround shot for the Aggie lead. Sophomore
Kylie Williams added an insurance goal with 31:33 to go in the second stanza, picking up a loose ball after a number of deflections and blasting it home.
Senior
Brenna Coll played the first half and picked up the win, stopping three shots. Freshman
Emily Schukraft was in goal for the second period and made one save. Neumann sophomore Kristen Montgomery saw just over 67 minutes of time before leaving with an injury. She had seven saves. Sophomore Kahlyn Ford finished the game and stopped one shot.
DelVal opens up Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom play at Misericordia University on Saturday, October 3 (5:00 p.m.).
