DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – The Delaware Valley women's soccer team honored its six graduating seniors in a pregame ceremony before taking on the King's Monarchs at home on Robert A. Lipinski Field on Saturday evening.
Strong second half scoring from the Monarchs was too much for DelVal to overcome dropping the game 5-1.
The Aggies were the first to make an attempt at the goal in the third minute when
Rena Kotsedakis took a shot at the bottom center of the goal saved by the Monarchs defensive unit.
King's controlled the offense over the ensuing 11 minutes, sending a shot into the hands of Aggies' goalkeeper Nicoel Ocejo and then sending one wide before eventually converting to get on the board 1-0. The Aggies were held to just one more shot in the half while the Monarchs added another 12 met by five saves from Ocejo.
Alexa DelGiudice tried to find the equalizer two minutes into the second half, but the attempt was stuffed once again by the Monarchs' defensive unit. King's extended its lead to five over the next 30 minutes holding the Aggies to just two shots.
With less than a minute in the game DelGiudice connected with
Gianna Clappsy to prevent the shutout and give the Aggies their lone goal of the game.
DelVal returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 25 when they face FDU-Florham on the road at 6 p.m.
