Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University received goals from four different players and played one of its most complete games of the year as the host Aggies upended Widener University, 4-1, in a non-conference contest.
DelVal improved its record to 4-3 and the team will now prepare for its Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom opener at King's College on Friday night, September 25 (7:30 p.m.). Widener fell to back to .500 at 3-3 with Tuesday's loss.
Shots were few and far between for the first 21 minutes of the game. DelVal then came down the field and
Taylor Prichett slid the ball across the circle toward the right post.
Carlie Baldus was there to put it in for her fourth goal of the season with 13:01 remaining in the half.
Less than five minutes later, the Aggies were back on the attack and Baldus nearly scored again, but Pride goalkeeper Mikayla Ninos made a diving stop. The ball trickled to
Kara Imes who tallied her first goal of the year and DelVal took a 2-0 lead into the break,
The Aggies increased their advantage just 3:03 into the second stanza as they had a corner opportunity and
Cecelia Lounsberry eventually sent the ball toward the goal,
Samantha Collyer got to it and slid it by Ninos for the freshman's second goal. DelVal got its final tally with 23:21 remaining as senior defender
Kate Wilson picked her first career assist on a goal by Prichett. Prichett's tap-in was her fourth of the year and she leads the team with 14 points.
Widener avoided the shutout with 3:24 remaining as the Pride had four consecutive corners and connected on the last one thanks to a blast by Alyssa Buckley.
The Aggies held a 16-13 advantage in shots with Widener having 15 corners compared to seven by DelVal.
Emily Aldridge stopped five shots for the win while Ninos had six saves for the Pride.
