Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley University began its final Freedom Conference series of the year with an offensive explosion as the Aggies struck for 14 runs and 20 hits in a 14-2, home triumph over King's College.
Delaware Valley improved to 13-21 overall and 3-16 in conference action while the Monarchs fell to 9-21 and 4-15. The two will wrap up their series and their seasons with Saturday's doubleheader at King's.
It was the second-highest run production and the most hits in a single game for the Aggies this season. All nine starters in the lineup recorded at least one hit, including seven with two or more base knocks.
Delaware Valley wasted no time as it connected for five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first.
Kevin Crill led off with a single and
Austin Bregman was hit by a pitch. After the first out,
Matt DeWald doubled to center field to drive in both runners.
Corey White followed with a double of his own to plate DeWald and
Jeremy Stewart made it extra-base hits in a row with an RBI triple. Stewart later scored on a wild pitch.
White and Stewart delivered again in the second as they had RBI singles to make it a 7-0 contest. The Aggies then added three more in the third as runs scored on a hit batsman, a wild pitch and a ground out.
King's got on the board in the fourth as Stephen Brynok tripled in a run and then scored on an RBI single from Joe Civello. Delaware Valley responded with single tallies in the fourth (error) and fifth innings (sacrifice fly by White) for a 12-2 score.
The Aggies continued their offensive onslaught in the seventh as Wenger tripled in Bregman and then scored on a ground out by DeWald for the 14-2 final.
The 20-hit attack was led by Bregman as the freshman was a perfect 4-for-4 and scored five runs. DeWald finished 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs while White went 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Stewart added three hits, including a triple, and knocked in a pair of runs while Wenger had a triple and two RBIs.
Cayton Curtis (3-for-5),
Samuel Amos (2-for-5) and
Ben Lippincott (2-for-5) also had multiple-hit games.
Liam Constantine picked up his first win of the season (1-3) as he went six innings and allowed two runs and five hits while striking out seven.
Brynok had two of the Monarchs' six hits with a 2-for-4 effort. Greg Bartle went one-plus innings and suffered the loss.
