Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – The Delaware Valley University baseball team notched 31 runs and 27 hits, en route to a non-conference doubleheader sweep of visiting Baptist Bible College. The Aggies took the first game, 19-10, and finished the nightcap with a 12-4 triumph.
It was the first two games of seven that will take place over a four-day for Delaware Valley which improved to 10-16 overall. The Aggies will have a three-game, Freedom Conference series with Eastern University on Friday and Saturday and will then host DeSales University for a twinbill on Sunday.
Delaware Valley scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning of the opener, including a two-run double from
Kyle Wenger and a sacrifice fly from
Matt DeWald. The Aggies then added two more in the third on a bases loaded walk to
Liam Constantine and a sacrifice fly by
Ben Lippincott.
Delaware Valley increased its lead to 12-0 with a big, seven-run output in the fourth inning. It had four hits, including a two-single by
Corey White, and also took advantage of a pair of Baptist Bible errors.
The Defenders (2-18) came right back and put seven runs of their own on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth as they registered seven hits and the Aggies had one error. Six different players had RBIs in the stanza.
DeWald upped Delaware Valley's advantage to 14-7 as he blasted a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth. Baptist Bible got those two back in the top of the sixth, but the Aggies responded with five runs in the bottom of the stanza, including an RBI triple by Wenger and an RBI double by
Harry Hancock.
Wenger was 2-for-4 with a double, triple, two stolen bases, three runs scored and three RBIs. DeWald was 3-for-3 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs while
Kevin Crill went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs scored and two RBIs. Crill also pitched the first five innings to get his first collegiate win.
Another freshman,
Austin Bregman, picked up his first collegiate victory as he went four innings in the second game and allowed just one earned run and three hits.
Jeremy Stewart pitched the final three innings for a save.
Baptist Bible scored an unearned run in the first inning before Delaware Valley got six runs on three hits and one error in the second stanza.
Cayton Curtis knocked in two with a single for the big Aggie hit.
The Defenders cut into the lead with a two-run, top of the third that was answered with White's RBI single in the bottom of the stanza. Delaware Valley then plated four in the fourth, including RBIs from DeWald, Stewart, Wenger and White, for an 11-3 advantage.
The Aggies added another in the fifth as Crill doubled down the right field line to score
Matt Beyer. Baptist Bible got the final run on the final play of the game as Patrick Barrious doubled in a tally, but was thrown out while trying to advance to third.
Wenger was 1-for-2 with two RBI while DeWald was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and one RBI. Curtis went 2-for-4, scored one run and knocked in two.
