Graeleigh Lackey scored four times for Delaware Valley University, but it could not hold onto a first half lead as visiting conference foe King's College escaped with an 11-7 victory.
This contest marked the final home game of the inaugural season for the Aggies who fell to 2-10 overall and 0-5 in Freedom Conference games. The Monarchs upped their record to 7-5 overall and a 3-1 mark in the league game. They currently sit in third place in the Freedom behind undefeated FDU-Florham and Misericordia University with one game remaining. Eastern holds the fourth and final playoff spot with a 2-2 record in conference games.
Delaware Valley jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to goals just 67 seconds apart from Lackey and senior
Lydia Spakosky. King's responded with three unanswered goals, all off the stick of Anastasia Araviakis, as they took a one -goal lead with 15:55 left on the first-half clock.
The Aggies came right back with three unanswered tallies of their own.
Nicolette Angelella got the first as she spun off a defender at the top of the arc and bounced one past the keeper to tie the game.
Kara Imes then found a cutting Lackey for her second of the afternoon. Lackey then picked up her third goal on a man-down situation to increase Delaware Valley's lead to 5-3 with 4:21 on the clock.
However, 50 seconds later, with the Monarchs still on the man-up opportunity, Breanna Schurgot found the back of the net for her first of the game. King's tacked on one more just before the end of the half to tie the game at 5-5 going into the break.
The Monarchs came out strong in the second as they scored the first four goals to open up a 9-5 advantage with just over 18 minutes left in the game. The Aggies tried to mount a comeback as
Jacqueline Ricks cleared the ball and set up Lackey who was all alone in front of the net. Then it was Angelella who set up
Taylor Teliszewski to cut the deficit to two with seven minutes remaining. King's closed out the game with two goals from Gabriella Morrocu, her fourth and fifth of the game, the last coming at the 3:48 mark to seal the 11-7 victory.
As it was the final home game of the season, the Aggies celebrated their lone senior
Lydia Spakosky. Her line for the day included one goal on three shots to go with three ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers.
Sarah Fenwick was stellar in goal in this contest as she played all 60 minutes making 13 saves. The Aggies held a 26-25 advantage in ground balls, but were outshot 34-16.
Morrocu and Araviakis each had five points as they combined for nine goals and one assist for the Monarchs while Victoria Zawaki was credited with six saves in goal.
Delaware Valley will wrap up its first season next Saturday, April 25 at Freedom Conference foe Wilkes University.
