DelVal Baseball Suffers Sweep By Manhattanville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Manhattanville College completed a three-game, Freedom Conference series sweep of Delaware Valley University as the visiting Valiants posted 10-5 and 5-2 triumphs in Saturday's doubleheader.

Manhattanville, which won 5-4 at home on Friday, improved to 18-13 overall and 11-5 in league contests. The Aggies fell to 8-15 and 2-10.

In game one Delaware Valley held a 5-4 lead going into the top of the seventh when the Valiants struck for six runs on five hits. Robbie Lunch led off with a walk and scored the tying run on Joe Anselmi's RBI triple. Bobby Guerra followed with a single to score Anselmi with the go-ahead run and Kevin Brady followed with an RBI double. A passed ball and a two-run single by John Delahanty plated the remaining three tallies.

The Aggies loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the seventh, coming one batter shy of bringing the tying run to the plate. However, Danny Gallagher retired the next two batters to complete the win in relief.

Manhattanville scored single runs in the first and second innings, before the Aggies matched it in the bottom of the fourth on a two-run triple by Liam Constantine. The Valiants regained the lead in the fifth, but back came Delaware Valley in its half of the stanza. A Corey White double scored Ben Lippincott and Jeremy Stewart followed with an RBI single to score Austin Bregman and move White to third. Bregman appeared to be picked off, but a Manhattanville fielder dropped the ball and White scored on the play for the 5-4 lead. It stayed the way until the seventh and the Valiants' late-game heroics.

Constantine was 3-for-4 with a double, triple and two RBIs while Stewart and Kevin Crill had two hits apiece. Casey Paholski took the loss in relief. For Manhattanville, Anselmi and Delahanty notched two hits each.

The second game belonged to Manhattanville starter Michael Lyon as he went the full seven innings and allowed two runs and just four hits while striking out seven. He retired 10 in a row in the middle of the game and improved to 1-1 on the year.

The teams traded single runs with the Valiants getting one in the first and the Aggies getting one in the third on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Wenger. Manhattanville added two in the fourth, including an RBI triple by Jake McGrath, and two more in the fifth.

Delaware Valley picked up its final run in the sixth when Wenger connected for a bomb over the right-center field fence. It was his second of the season as he went 1-for-1 with two RBIs in the night cap. Crill was 2-for-3. Jeremy Hefele took the loss.
