Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – In a rain soaked affair, the Delaware Valley College women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-5, non-conference decision to visiting Rutgers University-Camden.
The loss dropped the Aggies to 1-3 while the Scarlet Raptors picked up their first victory of the year to improve to 1-2 overall.
It didn't take long for Delaware Valley to get on the board in this one as
Corinne Militana controlled the opening draw, weaved through the defense and buried a shot past the keeper just 11 seconds into the contest.
Less than one minute later, Natalie DiCarlo tied the game for Rutgers-Camden and sparked a four-goal spurt that spanned just over five miniutes. Cecilia Gross had the last two tallies in that run as the Scarlet Raptors held a 4-1 lead with 22:46 to play in the half.
The Aggies responded accordingly with three unanswered goals of their own to tie the score at 4-4.
Kara Imes got the first and Militana followed suit just eight seconds later with her second of the evening. Then it was
Taylor Teliszewski who netted her seventh of the season with 14:25 left in the first stanza.
The trend of alternating runs continued as DiCarlo and Holly Cusick each picked up a pair of goals for Rutgers-Camden before the end of the half. Cusick's second of that stretch came off an assist from Gross with 6:47 on the clock and the Scarlet Raptors led 8-4 at the break.
Rutgers-Camden continued the run in the second stanza as it scored the first four of the second half to open up an eight-goal advantage at 12-4 with just over four minutes to play in regulation. In the waning seconds, the Aggies were awarded a free position attempt and Imes capitalized for her second of the game just before time expired for the 12-5 final.
Delaware Valley was led by a pair of goals from Imes and Militana with Teliszewski picking up one of her own.
Sarah Fenwick played all 60 minutes in net and made nine saves for the Aggies.
Rutgers-Camden got four goals from DiCarlo and two from Cusick, Gross and Sarah Boucot with Brigette Forte and Krystal Valianti each getting on the board once. Alexa Rocks made seven saves in net.
