Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) --
Taylor Prichett scored four goals as the Delaware Valley College field hockey team picked up its first win of the 2014 campaign in an 8-1 home victory over Elmira College.
Â
The win upped the Aggies to 1-2 on the young season while the Soaring Eagles fell to 0-2.
Â
It was Prichett who got the scoring started as she received a pass from
Jessica Summers at the top of the circle and blasted a shot past the keeper with 12:33 left on the first-half clock.
Â
Delaware Valley then scored three times over the final 4:32 of the first half to take a 4-0 lead into the break. Prichett got her second tally of the day, and the first of the Aggies' quick three before the halftime horn, as she tipped in a pass off a beautiful setup from Cecilia Lounsberry. A minute and seven seconds later, freshman
Carlie Baldus picked up her first collegiate goal as she blasted a shot from just inside the circle that beat the Elmira keeper to the left side. With just 12 seconds remaining in the first half, Prichett capped off her hat trick as she came away with the loose ball out of a scramble of players and put it in the back of the cage.
Â
Two minutes into the second half, it was Prichett again with her fourth of the afternoon off a
Stefania Swider assist. Elmira was able to answer when Atupele Machika set up Alison Mariano in front of the cage for the easy tap in to make it a 5-1 game with 23:52 to play.
Â
Summers came back for Delaware Valley with two straight goals of her own in a six-minute span. Her first, with 20:29 to play, was an unassisted tally from 10 yards out. Her second of the afternoon came off a setup from
Kelsey Zook that she was able to tap in to extend the Aggie lead to 7-1 with 14:46 on the clock. Zook then got a goal of her own with 1:50 remaining in the game as
Olivia Bingeman set her up at the top of the circle and she shot to the far right post.
Â
As a team, Delaware Valley racked up 28 shots on goal while the defense was able to hold Elmira to just three shots.
Emily Aldridge made two saves in goal for the Aggies and Mikayla Rebusmen stopped 19 shots for the Soaring Eagles.
