DELVAL, WIDENER WOMEN'S SOCCER FINISH IN 1-1 DEADLOCK

Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Host Delaware Valley College and Widener University battled for 110 minutes and neither squad could come out on top as they settled for a 1-1, double-overtime tie.

The Aggies saw their record move to 3-2-1 overall, including 3-1-1 in the last five game. The tie left the Pride at 3-3-1.

The two scored their goals within 66 seconds of each other. Delaware Valley struck first with 16:27 left in the first half as Shayna Schaeffer sent a lob into the box and Nikki Dunlap was there to receive it. She then lobbed a shot over the goalie from 12 yards out for her third goal of the season.

However, Widener came right back down as Eva Reyes sent a through ball to Erica McDonough and McDonough put a low shot inside the far post with 15:21 to go before the intermission.

The Pride nearly took the lead in the opener four minutes of the second half as Jenna Pedrick clanked a shot off the post and McDonough sent the rebound over the net. Seven minutes later, Delaware Valley's Karla Keler had a breakaway and let a shot go from 18 yards out. Widener keeper Olivia Pfautz got a hand on it and it rolled just past the post.
Later in the second half, Widener's Alyssa Knox sent a shot that Aggie keeper Claudia Winters tipped and it went off the crossbar. Then with less than eight minutes to go, it was Delaware Valley's turn as Mary Taylor had a breakaway, but shot it just wide from eight yards out.

Neither team had a golden opportunity in the two, 10-minute overtime sessions. Widener finished the game with 17 shots compared to 15 by the Aggies. Both teams had three corners with the Pride having two in the second overtime. Winters made 11 saves for Delaware Valley while Pfautz finished with five stops at the other end.
