Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) –
Stefania Swider's goal with just 1:51 remaining gave Delaware Valley College its second 1-0 win in less than 48 hours, this time over visiting non-conference foe Neumann University.
The Aggies were coming off a hard-fought, 1-0 double-overtime win at previously undefeated Wesley College on Thursday night. Saturday's contest appeared headed to extra time as well before Swider's tally helped get Delaware Valley to the .500 mark at 3-3. The Knights, who were looking for their third win in the last four games, slipped to 2-4.
Neumann controlled the play for most of the second half as it outshot the Aggies, 11-5, in the stanza. Late in the half, Delaware Valley moved the ball into the Knights' circle and was awarded a penalty corner.
Taylor Prichett's pass to start the corner opportunity, found its way outside the circle but the Aggies were still able to control it and brought it back in. The ball went to
Lydia Spakosky and she sent a reverse sweep from the left to the middle. Swider was there and the sophomore deflected it into the top left corner of the netting for the 1-0 Delaware Valley lead.
Neumann came right back after allowing the goal and earned a corner just 29 seconds later. The Knights were able to get three shots off in a 17-second span around the one-minute span, including two up close by Jessica Harrell, but Aggie goalkeeper
Emily Aldridge stopped them all. Delaware Valley was finally able to clear the ball and the clock ran out to give the squad the win.
The Aggies had a 9-2 advantage in shots in the first half, all on goal, as well as 7-1 advantage in corners, but they could not get the ball past Neumann's Summer Sklivas. The best chance with just more than six minutes remaining before intermission when
Kelsey Zook blasted one from the top of the circle, but Sklivas stuck out the right pad for the big stop. It remained scoreless until Swider's heroics near the end.
Delaware Valley finished with 14-13 overall edge in shot and it had 14 corner opportunities compared to 10 by the Knights. Skilvas was credited with 13 saves while Aldridge had eight stops, en route to her second straight shutout. Spakosky had two defensive saves as well in the win.
