DEVAL BASEBALL DROPS SERIES FINALE TO EASTERN

Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Eastern University scored five runs in three separate innings to run away with a 16-3 victory over host Delaware Valley College in the final game of a three-game, Freedom Conference set.
 
With the win, the Eagles took the season series against the Aggies after the two squads split the doubleheader yesterday.  The victory improved them to 4-16 overall and 4-8 in Freedom play while Delaware Valley fell to 8-8 overall and 2-6 in league games.
 
After loading the bases in the first inning, Joe Grato singled to right field to bring in one run and keep the bases loaded.  Eric Rossi came up next and delivered a three-run triple and then scored on a Dillon Schwartzer sacrifice fly.  The Aggies got one back in the bottom of the inning when Connor Buhler singled to left field to score Kyle Wenger.
 
The Eagles scored five more in the second inning off of three hits, including a three-run double from Schwartzer, to make it a 10-1 game. 
 
In the bottom of the third, Delaware Valley strung together four straight hits with two outs in the inning to plate two more runs.  Matt DeWald and Mike Anusky picked up RBI singles to knock in Buhler and Corey White.
 
After each team went down in order in the fourth inning, the Eagles registered five more runs in the fifth off of six hits to extend the lead to 15-3.  Eastern scored one more in the top of the seventh for the final tally of the afternoon.
 
For Eastern, Andrew DiFerdinando had a game-high four hits and four runs scored to go with one RBI and a walk in six plate appearances.  Rossi picked up five RBIs on 3-for-5 hitting and Andrew Check was 3-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Schwartzer added four RBIs. Barry Jost allowed three runs over six innings and improved to 2-2.
 
Buhler, DeWald and White each went 2-for-4 and combined for two runs and two RBIs. Anusky was 1-for-3 and picked up the third run batted in of the day for the Aggies. Freshman Trevor Dalton took the loss as he lasted just one-plus innings.
