DELVAL COMEBACK ATTEMPT FALLS SHORT IN 8-5 LOSS TO FDU-FLORHAM

Box Score FLEMINGTON (NJ) – FDU-Florham jumped out to an 8-0 lead and then held on for an 8-5 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College in a Freedom Conference game. The contest was moved to a turf field at Diamond Nation since the Devils' home field was unplayable due to yesterday's rain.

FDU-Florham improved to 15-8 overall and 11-4 in the Freedom while the Aggies fell to 11-12 and 5-10. Delaware Valley will begin a three-game conference series with Manhattanville College with a home game tomorrow (doubleheader at Manhattanville on Friday).

The Devils scored two runs in the third inning as then added six more in the fourth as they sent 10 batters to the plate and notched seven hits in the stanza. The big hit in the fourth was a two-out, two-run homer by Austin Tomaszewicz. In fact, four of the six runs in the inning came with two outs.

It was still an 8-0 lead heading into the top of the eighth when the Aggies got on the scoreboard twice. With one out, Pete O'Hara smacked his team-best fourth home run, a shot over the left field fence. Delaware Valley then loaded the bases with singles by Brandon Bell and Kyle Wenger and a walk to Corey White. Connor Buhler also drew a walk to bring in Bell for a run.

In the ninth, Delaware Valley put two on with two outs and Wenger hit a shot to deep left-center for the freshman's second home run of the season. Wenger finished the day 4-for-5, including the three-run bomb. O'Hara was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a run batted in. Trevor Dalton went three-plus innings and took the loss.

For the Devils, Tomaszewicz was 3-for-4 with a triple, home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Chris Roberts allowed two runs and eight hits while striking out seven over seven-plus innings and picked up his fifth win of the year.
