DELVAL, MISERICORDIA BASEBALL SPLIT SATURDAY TWINBILL

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Sophomore Jake Richard gave up one run on three hits in a complete-game effort as Delaware Valley College salvaged the final game of its Freedom Conference series against Misericordia University. The Cougars took the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, 12-2, but the Aggies bounced back for a 3-1 victory.

Misericordia, which won the series opener on Friday, improved its record to 17-10-1 overall and 10-4 in league games.  Delaware Valley remained at .500 overall with a 10-10 mark overall and a 4-8 record in the Freedom.

Richard began the game by giving up a leadoff single to Chris Boroch, who eventually came around to score after a sacrifice bunt, a wild pitch and an RBI single from Max German.

It was all Aggies from there as they came up in the bottom half of the first and manufactured two runs on four hits.  Pete O'Hara led off the inning with a single and a stolen base and Brandon Bell moved him over to third on an infield single.  Freshman Cory Wenger and sophomore Connor Buhler followed with a pair of RBI singles to give Delaware Valley the 2-1 lead.

Richard was stellar from there as he didn't give up another hit until the fourth inning when Mike Comerford singled to left field, but was eventually thrown out at third after trying to advance on a pass ball.

Delaware Valley played small ball again in the fifth inning to tack on an insurance run.  Bobby Altieri led off with a single to center field and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from O'Hara.  After Bell walked, Wenger grounded into a fielder's choice that put runners on the corner for Buhler, who delivered with his second RBI single of the game.

Richard pitched perfect sixth and seventh innings to walk away with his third victory of the season (3-2).  Corey Lee took the loss for Misericordia and dropped to 2-2 on the season.

In the opener, the Cougars scored in six of the seven innings as it racked up 13 hits and took advantage of five Aggie errors. They put one on the board in the first and took command with a six-run second inning in which they notched five hits. Kyle Lindsay knocked in two runs in that inning on a bases loaded single.

The Aggies' only two runs came in the bottom of that frame when Jordan Heisler plated Buhler on an RBI single after he got aboard with a walk.  Mike Anusky also singled in the inning and came around to score on a wild pitch.

Misericordia answered right back with two runs in the third and notched single runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.

Joe Tagliarini led Misericordia with three hits and he was one of five players with two RBIs apiece. Tim Burek (3-1) pitched five innings and gave up two runs on five hits while striking out three for the win.

At the plate for the Aggies, O'Hara had two hits in the opener and he finished the day with four base knocks and two stolen bases. Freshman Trevor Dalton (2-3) lasted just one inning in the opener and took the loss.
