Box Score DALLAS (PA) – In a rain-shortened game that was called after five innings, Misericordia University opened a three-game, Freedom Conference series with a 5-1 victory over visiting Delaware Valley College.
The Cougars improved to 16-9-1 overall and 10-3 in league action while the Aggies fell to 9-9 and 3-7. The series will shift to Doylestown for a doubleheader on Saturday.
Misericordia opened with three runs off four hits and one Aggie error in the bottom of the first. All three tallies came with the two outs, including RBI singles by Mike Cornerford and Kyle Sewards. The Cougars added another run in the second on an RBI ground out by Nick Hair.
Both teams scored in the third with Delaware Valley's coming off the bat of
Brandon Bell as the senior second baseman smacked a shot over the right field fence for his first collegiate home run.
Bell's shot was one of three hits for the Aggies – singles by
Michael Anusky and
Kyle Wenger were the others – off Misericordia starter Ryan Dorosh. Dorosh walked one and fanned 10 in the win.
Chad Schmuck pitched four innings and took the loss for Delaware Valley.
