DELVAL, WILKES SPLIT SOFTBALL TWINBILL

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College had its home and Freedom Conference openers on Saturday and the Aggies split a doubleheader with Wilkes University. They took the first game, 3-1, before the Lady Colonels rallied for a 6-5 triumph in the nightcap.

Delaware Valley and new head coach Corey Heulitt are now 2-8 overall and 1-1 in league action while the split left Wilkes at 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the Freedom.

In the opener, it was junior pitcher Alexis Boucher who led the way for the Aggies as she went the full seven innings and allowed just one run on four hits. She walked one and fanned four, en route to her first win of the season.

Delaware Valley got all three of its runs in the bottom of the fourth as Jackie Wear was hit by a pitch to start the stanza and Sydney Edwards, Loran Mihaliak and Whitney Stacey followed with consecutive, run-scoring doubles.

Wilkes got on the board in the sixth as, with two on, Jordan Borger delivered an RBI single. A runner was thrown out at third on the play and Boucher got the final batter out on a strikeout in the sixth and retired the side in order in the seventh for the win.

Mihaliak and Hannah Robinson had two hits apiece for the Aggies while Borger and Makenna Rushannon were each 2-for-3 for the Lady Colonels. Meghan Kisela took the loss as she allowed three runs and seven hits while striking out six over five innings of work.

Delaware Valley jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game as Robinson led off with a walk, Tori Stachura had a one-out single and Wear blasted hit her second home run of the season.

However, Wilkes scored six unanswered runs, starting with three in the third inning as Alysha Bixler hit a three-run homer to right field. It then took the lead in the fourth on a two-out, two-run single by Mandy Seccia. The Lady Colonels' also scored a two-out run in the sixth as Lacey Bixler singled to right-center plate a run.

The Aggies rallied in the sixth inning as they put runners on second and third with just one out. Mihaliak then single to left-center to score both for a 6-5 contest. They put the tying run just 90 feet away with one out in that sixth but could not get that tally across. They then went down in order in the seventh.

Haylie Phillips went the distance for Wilkes and allowed five runs and six hits for her first win of the year. Lacey Bixler and Seccia were each 2-for-3 and they combined for three RBIs.

Wear was 2-for-2 with a home run, two runs scored and three RBIs. Stachura added two hits in three at-bats. Magen Majeski took the loss with six runs and nine hits allowed in seven innings.
