Softball Sweeps Cedar Crest on Senior Day

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. – Delaware Valley softball celebrated Senior Day with a 24-run sweep of Cedar Crest on Thursday afternoon.

Game 1 | Delaware Valley 11 – Cedar Crest 0

Morgan Mecham set the tone early, retiring the side in order with two strikeouts in the first before the Aggies erupted for four runs in the bottom half. Angelina Bresnen led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch. Jillian Collins later came home on a Tessa Fredericks groundout, while Tori Bockrath and Laila Murray reached on consecutive hits, with Bockrath scoring on a throwing error. Amelia Funston capped the inning with an RBI single to make it 4-0.

Mecham added two more strikeouts in the second, and Delaware Valley doubled its lead with another four-run inning. Madison Donnelly drove in Kenzie Boyd on a groundout before Fredericks singled to score Bresnen. Bockrath followed with an RBI double to left center, and Murray reached on an error that allowed Bockrath to score for an 8-0 advantage.

The Aggies added three more in the fourth. With two in scoring position, Bockrath lifted a sacrifice fly to score Collins. Murray followed with an RBI single, and Funston delivered an RBI double to left center to push the lead to 11-0.

Boyd worked a scoreless fifth in relief to close out the game, while Mecham earned her 11th win of the season with six strikeouts.

Game 2 | Delaware Valley 13 – Cedar Crest 5

Delaware Valley jumped out to a quick lead again, scoring five runs in the first inning, aided by three Cedar Crest errors. With the bases loaded, Fredericks reached on an error that brought home Collins and Bresnen. Murray followed with an RBI single, and Funston reached on another error that allowed two more runs to score, making it 5-0.

Madison Karns worked out of a jam in the second, stranding two runners by recording a strikeout and forcing an out at third.

The Aggies broke the game open in the third, scoring seven runs on nine hits. Fredericks, Bockrath, Murray, Boyd, and Donnelly all recorded RBIs in the inning, which also featured a double steal with Murray swiping home.

Gemma Taggart tossed the final two innings, allowing five unearned runs while earning her third win of the season.

With the sweep, Delaware Valley improves to 27-9 overall and will close out the regular season at King's College on Friday, April 24, as it looks to secure a spot in the MAC Freedom Tournament.
