ABINGTON, Pa. – Delaware Valley softball erupted for 22 runs in a doubleheader sweep of PSU-Abington on Tuesday afternoon.
Game 1 | Delaware Valley 7 – PSU-Abington 1
Madison Karns retired the first six Nittany Lions in order before the Aggie offense broke through in the third. Angelina Bresnen and Jillian Collins reached base, and Madison Donnelly drove in Bresnen with a single to center. After Tessa Fredericks loaded the bases with a single down the left-field line, Laila Murray cleared them with a three-run double to right, giving DelVal a 4-0 lead.
In the fourth, Donnelly drove in Bresnen again after she led off the inning with a double. PSU-Abington got on the board with a run on a groundout, but the Aggies answered late.
Delaware Valley loaded the bases in the seventh behind a Donnelly double, a Fredericks reach on error, and a Tori Bockrath single. Murray added a sacrifice fly to score Donnelly, and Amelia Funston followed with an RBI single to right to cap the scoring at 7-1.
Karns went the distance in the circle, striking out five to improve to 10-5 on the season.
Game 2 | Delaware Valley 15 – PSU-Abington 1
The Aggies struck first in the second inning when Jillian Ulozas doubled to left center to score Funston.
DelVal broke the game open in the third, scoring seven runs. The inning was highlighted by RBI hits from Murray, Funston, Kenzie Boyd, and a Bresnen triple to make it 8-0.
The offense stayed hot in the fourth. Fredericks walked and Bockrath singled to start the inning, and the Aggies brought in runs on hits from Murray, Funston, Boyd, Bresnen, and Donnelly to extend the lead to 13-0. PSU-Abington pushed across a run, but Delaware Valley quickly responded.
In the fifth, Sienna Cali singled and Haley Kley walked before Funston doubled to right center to drive in Cali. Later in the inning, Lydia Borger grounded out to score Kley, sealing the 15-1 victory.
Morgan Mecham earned her 10th win of the season (10-2), matching Karns with double-digit victories.
With the sweep, the Aggies improve to 25-9 overall and will host Cedar Crest on Thursday, April 23, for Senior Day beginning at 3 p.m.
