Box Score 2 FORT PIERCE (FL) – Delaware Valley College and FDU-Florham opened Freedom Conference play with a doubleheader on its Spring Break trips to Florida and it was the Devils who came away with a pair of victories. They took the opener, 1-0, in nine innings and completed the sweep with a 10-0 triumph in the nightcap.
The Aggies had their five-game winning streak snapped as they ended their trip with a 6-4 record (0-2 Freedom). FDU-Florham, which was beginning its week in Florida, improved to 2-2 and 2-0.
The first game was a pitcher's duel between Delaware Valley's
Jake Richard and the Devils' Chris Roberts. Neither pitcher gave up a run through eight innings before FDU-Florham plated the lone tally in the ninth on a throwing error with two outs and a runner on second. Richard came out of the game after that, but not before he went eight and two-third innings and allowed no earned run and five hits while striking out six. Roberts pitched a scoreless ninth for the Devils to complete his five-hit shutout where he also fanned 12 Aggies.
Andrew Hille was even better for FDU-Florham in the second game as he struck out 16 batters in the seven inning complete game. He allowed just three hits – two in the first and one in the seventh.
The game was scoreless after three innings, but the Devils picked up 10 runs over the last four stanzas.
Chad Schmuck went four innings for the Aggies, allowed four earned runs and took the loss.
