Box Score 2 FORT PIERCE (FL) – Delaware Valley College ran its winning streak to five as the Aggies swept a doubleheader from Geneva College, 4-0 and 5-2, on their Spring Break trip to Florida.
The wins lifted Delaware Valley's record to 6-2 on the season. It will end its trip and begin Freedom Conference play on Saturday with a doubleheader with FDU-Florham. Both teams are in the Sunshine State for its Spring Breaks while conference play begins up North and the two will meet with the Aggies as the home team for both (the third game of the series will be played at FDU-Florham on Sunday, April 6).
Pitching was the story of the day for Delaware Valley against the Golden Tornadoes (1-5). In the opener, freshman
Trevor Dalton improved to 2-0 as he hurled a complete-game, five-hit shutout. Dalton walked one and struck out one in the win.
Mike Kearney took the mound in the second game and he went the full seven innings and permitted just two runs (one earned) and four hits. He fanned seven and walked just two while improving to 1-1.
In game one, the Aggies scored two runs in the third on a fielder's choice by
Michael Anusky and a wild pitch. Then in the sixth,
Pete O'Hara and Anusky led off with singles and they moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by
Kyle Wenger. After a strikeout,
Brandon Bell came with a two-run single for a 4-0 lead and that was the final.
Geneva scored two runs in the top of the first in the nightcap. The Aggies tied it in the bottom of the stanza as O'Hara led off with a single, stole second and scored on a triple by Wenger. Wenger then came in on a ground out by
Connor Buhler.
Delaware Valley took the lead in fourth when Wenger walked, stole second and scored on a double by Bell. It got insurance runs in the fifth as a wild pitch plated one tally and another came in on a ground out by Wenger. Wenger knocked in two runs in the contest while O'Hara scored twice and stole two bases.
