Box Score 2 MYRTLE BEACH (SC) –
Loran Mihaliak hit a walkoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Delaware Valley College its first win of the season, a 2-1 triumph over Swarthmore College. It was the second game of the day for the Aggies as they opened with a 10-1 loss to Division II Bemidji State University.
The victory in the nightcap improved Delaware Valley to 1-3 on the young season and it was the first win as an Aggie for new head coach
Corey Heulitt.
Delaware Valley led 2-1 going into the top of the seventh, but the Garnet (1-5) tied it on an RBI double by Jackie Pezzato. In the bottom of the stanza,
Tori Stachura led off with a single and
Jackie Wear followed with a double. Swarthmore intentionally walked
Sydney Edwards which brought Mihaliak to the plate. The senior, who did not play the last two years, drove a pitch through the left side to bring Stachura in with the winning run.
Delaware Valley scored its first two runs in the first inning as Mihaliak drew a bases-loaded walk and Wear scored on a wild pitch. Mihaliak was 2-for-3 while
Nina Stachura and
Hannah Robinson combined for five hits.
Whitney Stacey pitched the final four innings and picked up the win.
The opener was all Bemidji State (7-2) as it racked up 10 runs on 16 hits and the game was called with no outs in the bottom of the sixth innings due to the eight-run mercy rule. Nicole Dupay and Chelsey Watson had three hits apiece in the win.
The Aggies lone run came in the top of the first as Robinson bunted for a single, moved into scoring position and scored on an RBI single by Wear. Edwards and Mihaliak had the remaining hits in the contest.
Alexis Boucher pitched three innings and took the loss.
