Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College scored the final four goals of the game, including two by
Leah Hawthorn, as the Aggies came back from an early 2-0 deficit to down visiting Widener University, 4-2, in a non-conference game.
The win improved Delaware Valley to 6-3 overall, including a 5-1 mark on its new home turf surface at Robert A. Lipinski Field at James Work Memorial Stadium. The Aggies will be home again on Friday as they open Freedom Conference action. Wednesday's loss dropped Widener to 3-5.
The Pride scored two goals in the opening 10 minutes and they were just 74 seconds apart. Colleen Riley struck first for her first tally of the year while Samantha Balonis followed with her third of the season.
Hawthorn helped Delaware Valley tie the contest before halftime. The senior and all-conference honoree connected off a
Jessica Summers assist with 18:51 left in the stanza and then took a feed from
Kelsey Zook and notched a goal with 13:15 on the clock. Hawthorn has four goals on the year.
The Aggies took their first lead of the game 13 minutes into the second half freshmen
Bree Musselman and
Elana Keller teamed up for Musselman's third tally of the year. Keller then assisted on an insurance goal with 9:43 as Zook connected for second goal of the season.
Delaware Valley held advantages of 23-16 in shots and 12-7 in corners.
Sandra Edwards made 10 saves in the winning effort while Maggie Karmeris also had 10 stops for Widener.
