Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) –
Jessica Summers scored 4:51 into overtime as Delaware Valley College rallied from a 2-0, second-half deficit and defeated visiting St. Mary's College, 3-2 in the 2013 season opener for both teams.
It was also the first regular-season game in school history on the new turf surface at Robert A. Lipinski Field at James Work Memorial Stadium and one could not write up a better script for the ending.
Early in the extra stanza, which features seven-on-seven play, the Aggies were on the offensive and
Taylor Prichett moved the ball into the circle. She then sent a short feed to Summers in the middle and Summers put the ball in the left corner of the cage from about 12 yards out for the game-winner.
Delaware Valley dominated the action throughout the game, but it was the Seahawks who scored the first two goals, including one less than three minutes into the game. They had a corner opportunity and struck as Emily Bishop scored off an Ally Dahlen assist.
St. Mary's hit the scoreboard again just more than 15 minutes into the second half when Carly Todd took a pass from Olivia Edwards and found the goal.
However, the Aggies got back in the contest just 70 seconds later as, off a corner,
Lydia Spakosky fed
Leah Hawthorn for the senior's first goal of the year. Prichett and Summers then teamed up for the game-tying tally with 11:44 remaining in regulation as Summers assisted on Prichett's goal, which just trickled over the goal line. Those two then came through in overtime for the come-from-behind win.
Delaware Valley held a 22-11 advantage in shots and a 16-4 advantage in corners.
Sandra Edwards had seven saves, including three clutch saves in a 10-second span in overtime, for the win. Christy Bishop had 14 saves for St. Mary's.
