DESALES BASEBALL TAKES TWO FROM DELVAL

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – DeSales University received strong pitching performances from Dan Gayeski and Eric Dillard as the Bulldogs swept a Freedom Conference doubleheader from host Delaware Valley College, 6-3 and 4-2.

DeSales remained atop the league standings as it improved to 17-6 overall and 9-1 in the Freedom. The Aggies, who won the series opener with a 13-5 triumph at DeSales on Friday, fell to 12-12 overall and 3-8 in the conference.

Gayeski went five innings in the opener and allowed just one earned run and four hits as he improved to 4-1. His teammates gave him a 5-0 lead midway through the game as they score in the first and third innings and added three more in the fourth. Jack Kavetski, Steven Wallace and Drew Borger had RBIs for the Bulldogs during that time frame.

Delaware Valley got back in the contest in the bottom of the fourth as it scored three runs off two hits and one DeSales error. Zach Kulikowski led off with a walk, moved to second on a single by Mike Anusky, stole third and scored when Andrew Welch reached on an error. Nate Reddell knocked in a tally with a sacrifice fly while another scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Jim Calabrese.

The Bulldogs added a finally tally in the sixth as Borger had a two-out single to plate Evan Fraser, who led off the stanza with a double.  The Aggies brought the tying run to the plate in the sixth, but Chris Zampini got out of the jam. Zampini then pitched a perfect seventh for his first save. Calabrese took the loss for Delaware Valley.

In the nightcap, DeSales put two quick runs on the board in the first as one scored on an error while the second came in on an RBI single by Derek Chrismer. The Bulldogs made it 3-0 in the fourth as Chrismer led off with a walk and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

The Aggies got one back in the bottom of the fourth as Calabese walked, moved to second on a single by Brandon Bell, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Jordan Heisler and scored on a ground out by Jeff Sennett.

The teams then traded runs in the sixth. Christmer singled, stole two bases and scored again on a wild pitch for DeSales. Delaware Valley's run was a sacrifice fly by Bell that brought home Pete O'Hara, who led off with a single.

Dillard improved to 3-1 as he went six innings and allowed two runs and four hits while striking out five. Tyler Reyes pitched a perfect seventh inning for his second save of the year. Chrismer finished 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs scored.

Calabrese was a perfect 2-for-2 with one run scored for the Aggies. Jake Richard permitted just three earned rusn in six-plus innings, but took the loss.
