DELVAL BASEBALL WRAPS UP SEASON WITH TWINBILL SPLIT

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Senior Jim Calabrese put Delaware Valley College ahead for good with an RBI single in the fifth inning and freshman Chris Kelly broke the school's single-season mark for saves as the Aggies ended the season by splitting a Freedom Conference doubleheader with visiting Eastern University. The Eagles took the opener 11-2, before Delaware Valley bounced back with a 6-5 triumph.

The Aggies concluded the 2013 campaign with an 18-20 overall record and a 6-15 mark in the Freedom. Eastern finished 18-18 overall and 7-14 in league action.

Calabrese was one of five Delaware Valley seniors (Cody Hudnall, Nate Reddell, Jeff Sennett and Andrew Welch were the others) honored in-between games. He came to the plate with a runner on second and two outs in the fifth inning of a 2-2 contest. Calabrese single through the left side and Pete O'Hara scored without a throw for the 3-2 advantage. The inning continued with a Brandon Bell single and then an error in the outfield that allowed both Calabrese and Bell to score. Sennett later delivered an RBI single in the stanza for a 6-2 lead.

Eastern came right back in the sixth as, after a walk, Brandon Kenish tripled and then scored on the play thanks to a throwing error. The Eagles made it 6-5 on a passed ball but the Aggies escaped with the lead.

Kelly then came out of the bullpen in the seventh and, after a leadoff walk, got a double play on a lineout to Bell at second. He then retired the next batter on a ground out for his seventh save of the year, topping the previous mark held by two players. Kelly also moved into sole possession of second place on the all-time list.

Chad Schmuck picked up the win as he went five-plus innings and allowed four runs (two earned) and five hits while fanning eight. Bell and Calabrese were each 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Kenish was 3-for-3 with the triple and two RBIs for Eastern.

The Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the opener as they scored four runs on four hits and two walks in the first inning. Greg DeSarro had the big hit with a two-run single. They then added a run in the second inning for a 5-0 lead.

Delaware Valley got two back in the bottom of the sixth on a two-run single by Bell. However, Eastern responded with four runs on one hit and a pair of Aggie errors in the sixth, and put two more on the board in the seventh for the 11-2 final.

DeSarro was 1-for-3 and knocked in three runs while Ryan McMenamin went 3-for-4 and scored three times. Lucas Bremerman picked up the complete-game victory.

Bell was 1-for-3 with two RBIs while O'Hara and Michael Anusky added two hits apiece. Hudnall went five innings and suffered the loss.
