AGGIES, MANHATTANVILLE SPLIT FREEDOM TWINBILL

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Delaware Valley College and Manhattanville College concluded its three-game Freedom Conference series by splitting Saturday's twinbill. The host Aggies took the opener, 4-2, before the Valiants rallied for a 4-3 triumph in the nightcap.

Delaware Valley moved its record to 8-10 overall and 2-6 in the Freedom. Manhattanville, which won the series opener at home on Thursday, saw its record go to 5-14 overall and 3-6 in league action.

The first game saw the Valiants touch Delaware Valley starter Cody Hudnall for two runs in the top of the first. Jordanis Nunez led off with a walk and scored on Nick Euvino's triple. Eurvino then crossed home plate on a ground out by Sean Ferguson.

The Aggies answered right away in their half of the first as Pete O'Hara began the stanza with a single and then stole second. With O'Hara running on the pitch, Jim Calabrese laid down a perfect bunt for a single. O'Hara never stopped and beat the throw to home. Jeff Sennett singled and both he and Calabrese moved up a base on a passed ball. Brandon Bell then knocked in Calabrese to tie the game.

Delaware Valley took a 3-2 advantage in the third as Calabrese had an infield second and moved to second on an overthrow. Sennett moved him up 90 feet and Calabrese then scored on a Manhattanville error.

Meanwhile, Hudnall settled down and kept the Valiants off the scoreboard. He wound up going five innings and allowed just two runs and four hits while striking out four. Chris Kelly came in and pitched a scoreless sixth.

The Aggies got an insurance run in their half of the sixth as Jordan Heisler singled and Bell executed a perfect hit-and-run to put runners on the corners. Bell then stole second and Corey White received an intentional walk to load the bases. After one out, Andrew Welch drew a walk to make it 4-2. Kelly allowed one runner on base in the top of the seventh, but he finished off the win for his third save of the year.

The win was Hudnall's second in three decisions. Calabrese finished 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Alex Basso took the loss for the Valiants as he allowed three earned runs in six innings.

Delaware Valley then jumped out to a 3-0, first inning lead as it notched four hits and took advantage of one Manhattanville error. O'Hara led off with a single and went to third when Mike Anusky reached on a miscue. Sennett grounded out, but knocked in O'Hara. Bell then doubled home a run and White followed with an RBI single.

However, the Aggies managed just five hits the rest of the way, including just four off Manhattanville starter Michael Lyon, who settled into the game after a shaky first. Meanwhile, the Valiant offense put a run on the board in the third on an RBI ground out by Johnny LoVetere.

In the top of the fifth, Manhattanville had runners on second and third with one out when Eli Tsouristakis singled to make it 3-2. Euvino tied it up with a sacrifice fly to right and Tsouristakis moved up to second on the throw. That proved costly as Nunez singled and Tsouristakis scored to give the Valiants a 4-3 lead.

Delaware Valley threatened in the sixth as it put two on with one out. Joe Palmeri came in for Lyon and struck out the two batters to end the stanza. In the seventh, White reached with a two-out single, but Palmeri got a called third strike to end the game and notch his third save of the year. The win was the first for Lyon.

Bell, Hudnall, O'Hara and White had two hits apiece for the Aggies. Calabrese took the loss as he gave up four runs and 10 hits in six innings of work.
