TAYLOR'S GOLDEN GOAL LIFTS DELVAL WOMEN'S SOCCER TO 4-3 FREEDOM WIN OVER KING'S

Box Score DOYLESTOWN (PA) – Mary Taylor celebrated her 19th birthday by notching two goals and two assists, including the game-winning tally with just 43 seconds left in the second overtime, to lift Delaware Valley College to a 4-3, Freedom Conference victory over visiting King's College.

The win was the second straight overall this week for the Aggies as they improved to 4-9-1, including a 1-1 mark in league action. The Lady Monarchs dropped to 1-1 in Freedom play and 6-5-1 overall.

In the waning minutes of the second overtime, the Aggies earned a throw-in deep in King's territory. Sam Ricks gathered the ball after the throw and sent a cross into the box. Taylor was the first to the ball and, after one touch, she blasted a shot into the upper right corner from 15 yards out to send the Delaware Valley sideline into a frenzy.

Delaware Valley played a strong first half as it jumped out to a 3-0 lead. The team opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Shayna Schaeffer headed a beautiful cross from Taylor into the net from 10 yards out. Less than five minutes later, the Aggies were back on the attack and, this time, it was Taylor cashing in on a corner kick that was sent into the box by Elisha Taney for her first goal of the season.

At the 30-minute mark of the half, Taylor streaked down the left side when she sent another cross into the box. This time, Keri Helmrich was on the other end of it to give Delaware Valley a comfortable 3-0 lead going into the break. It was Helmrich's team-best fourth goal of the season.

The second half belonged to Monarchs as they scored three times in a 10-minute span to even the score. The first tally came in the 70th minute when an Aggie defender misplayed a ball in the box and put it past her own keeper. Just two minutes later, Alexandra Garrett scored her third of the year off a pass from Christina Nassaney. They tied the contest with exactly 11 minutes remaining as Kylie Borick got her foot on a cross from Garrett inside the six yard line.

In the first overtime, the Lady Monarchs had a golden opportunity with Lindsey Humanik streaking down the right side of the field all alone, but her shot was just wide of the right post. Both teams had two more shots in the extra sessions before Taylor's golden goal ended the afternoon.

King's held a 24-12 advantage in shots while the Aggies had a 4-3 edge in corner opportunities. Julie Burnell played exceptional in goal for Delaware Valley as she played all 109-plus minutes and recorded nine saves. Jessica Natale and Lauren Duguid split time between the pipes for the Lady Monarchs and notched three saves and two saves respectively.
