DELVAL OPENS SEASON WITH 3-1 SETBACK AT ST. MARY'S

ST. MARY'S CITY (MD) – St. Mary's College of Maryland scored three unanswered goals to erase an early deficit and defeat visiting Delaware Valley College, 3-1, in the season opener for both teams.

The Aggies hit the scoreboard just 9:51 into the contest as freshman Taylor Prichett took a pass from Leah Hawthorn and deposited her first collegiate goal. It stayed 1-0 until late in the first half (2:54 remaining) when a ball went off a Delaware Valley player and into its own goal for a tied game.

The second half belonged to the Seahawks as they held a 5-1 advantage in shots and a 6-0 advantage in corners. Two of the shots from the back of the cage in a nine-minute span as Lauriann Parker and Olivia Edwards were credited with the tallies.

St. Mary's finished with edges of 12-5 in shots and 11-2 in corners. Junior Sandra Edwards made her first collegiate start in goal for Delaware Valley and finished with four saves. Christy Bishop stopped three shots, en route to the win for the Seahawks.
