FORT PIERCE (FL) – Delaware Valley College racked up 30 runs and 31 hits while its pitching staff permitted just one earned run as the Aggies swept a doubleheader from Bethany College, 14-0 and 16-0.
Delaware Valley is now 5-4 on the season and has won four of its last five contests. The team will wrap up its Spring Break trip to Florida with a doubleheader against Hilbert College on Friday. Bethany fell to 1-4 with Thursday's losses.
Delaware Valley trailed the Bison, 4-1, after one and half innings of play. The Aggies tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the second, and then added two runs in the third, two in the fourth, one in the fifth and five more in the sixth for the 10-run victory.
Matt Bodine went a perfect 3-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Pete O'Hara was 2-for-2 with a double, two stolen bases, two runs scored and two RBIs.
Jeff Sennett scored twice and knocked in two with a 2-for-4 performance while
Dan Hrubos (2-for-5),
Mike Otstot (2-for-3) and
Cory Weingart (2-for-4) each scored a run.
Chad Schmuck picked up the win as the sophomore as he went the full seven innings and allowed just one earned run and six hits. He walked one and struck out six. Tyler Kurtz suffered the loss for the Bison.
The nightcap saw Delaware Valley expand its 1-0 lead by scoring five runs in both the second and third innings. In the second, Hrubos nailed an RBI triple while
Jake Barben added a two-run triple. Bodine and Hrubos had two RBIs apiece in the third.
Weingart paced the 17-hit attack by going 4-for-6 with a double, two runs scored and three RBIs. Bodine kept his perfect day at the plate going as was 2-for-2 with two RBIs. Hrubos scored three times and knocked in three with a 2-for-4 effort. Barben was also 2-for-4 with two RBIs. O'Hara and
Brandon Bell combined for four hits, three runs and two RBIs.
Mike Kearney notched the win as he pitched five innings of six-hit ball. He walked three and fanned three.
Randy Forsythe and Jim McCabe each notched a scoreless inning. William Clarkson lasted just two-plus innings and took the loss for Bethany.
